Christmas: Event 1

Let the gift-giving begin! On Saturday we travelled to Olympia to celebrate Christmas at my aunt's house for my mom's side of the family. We got ourselves up and ready and out the door...wait for it...EARLY! That never, and I mean never, happens for us Gardners. We were anticipating a not very nice drive down there after hearing the dire weather reports but it ended up being a lovely drive. A few minor snow showers that were pretty to look at but didn't slow us down. So we were the first to arrive which is nice for Abby to get the lay of the land before more people show up. My aunt's house is gorgeous and always fun to visit. My cousin Emily is so great with Abby, she let her "borrow" all of her old stuffed animals which Abby doled out to everyone there. Emily's friend Rianne joined us and Trey made googly-eyes at her all night. I think he has a big crush on her! We ate a delicious turkey dinner, opened some presents, and had a very nice time. We headed out early, around 6:30 since it was getting cold and snow was moving south and the trip home was going alright until about south Everett when it started getting a little icy and slushy on the ground. By the time we got to Marysville it was fairly slow going, and then in Skagit county it was really slow going. But we made it home (with only a few moments of sheer panic followed by some swear words aimed at other drivers, thank goodness the kids were asleep!) and everyone went to bed early. We are now done with any long trips for Christmas, Nooksack next weekend is our next journey.
